An aquarium sponge filter setup can be very exciting when it is a double sponge filter that can hold some bio media as well. Technology is advancing and so as aquarium filters, In this video i will setup a Double bio sponge filter in my 4 feet aquarium and the additional compartments will hold bio media.

The size of filter depends on the size of the tank and the number and type of fish kept in the aquarium. In my case, i only have 3 breeder guppies in a 4 feet tank so i decided to buy a medium size Bio Sponge Filter and set it up next to the heater. Tank has already been cycled and there is a DIY bottle filter which is full of ceramic bio balls but the only challenge was that warm water wasn't evenly circulating inside the tank.

Double bio sponge filter looks exactly similar to a traditional double sponge filter, except it has 2 additional compartments attached to it. These compartments are optional and the filter will operate as a normal double sponge filter without them. These compartments can be used to boost either biological or mechanical filtration. Water is sucked through the two sponges and then it travels through the twin compartments with bio media and and exit the filter through main telescopic pipe. Since these compartments are round and it might be bit challenging to fill them with your favorite bio media. In my case, i added some ceramic rings at the bottom and then ceramic bio balls on top otherwise i would have wasted precious space in these compartments.
