Ball glass canning mason jars are versatile, fun, beautiful, and can used for many purposes around your home such as a drinking glasses, home decor, organizing, and storage. But mason jars are the foundation of home canning and understanding the difference between the size and shape is important for successful canning batches. In this video Annette Thurmon will cover the different jar types and sizes and when they should be used for best results.
Some of the areas Annette will discuss are:
Wide Mouth Jar – a larger opening more suitable for whole fruits or bigger items because they can be filled and emptied more easily.
Regular Mouth Jar – smaller opening that is ideal for sauces, jams, and jellies.
The Importance of Jar Shoulders – jars without shoulders are for freezer storage because of food expansion. Do not use jars with shoulders in the freezer.
Jar Sizes – your preference, but you should follow the exact recommendation from the recipe.
