In a shocking and tragic incident in Githurai, Kiambu County, police reportedly shot and killed numerous local residents on Tuesday night. This massacre has left the community in shock and mourning, with many demanding answers and justice.
According to the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), at least 30 people were killed and 100 others are nursing gunshot wounds. The police have yet to officially comment on the alleged killings, but locals claim that officers went on a shooting spree, targeting people who were minding their own business.
In response to the incident, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has urged the international community to investigate these human rights violations. LSK President Faith Odhiambo questioned why such violence occurred in a peaceful residential area and condemned the government's actions.
The police, in a brief statement, reported that 20 of their officers were injured after being attacked by a large group of youths who also burned a police vehicle. This conflicting narrative only adds to the confusion and outrage surrounding the Githurai massacre. #bnn #githurai #githuraimassacre #occupyprotests #rejectfinancebill2024
