The Federalist Papers are a collection of 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay. The purpose of the essays was to ratify the new United States Constitution. They were written in opposition to the Anti-Federalist Papers. Written under the pen name Publius, they were written over a period of 6 months and published in various newspapers. Federalist No. 1, written by Hamilton, introduces the arguments of the Federalists and asserts that there are opponents are after power and are not advocating for the good of the people.
