We used "Onslaught Fast Cap" to eradicate the bugs! I believe these were wood mites. Please read below:
We've had these tiny white bugs for a year on our outdoor patio furniture and don't know what they are or how to get rid of them. They're all over our outdoor wood patio table and 6 chairs. We've treated them so many times...tried raid/ortho bug spray, soap, vinegar, tea tree oil & organic pesticide. After treated, they're gone for a day, then come right back in large numbers. Funny thing, we have wicker furniture with cushions, two large rugs and a grill on the same outdoor patio, they're free of these bugs. Bugs are only on the wood. If anyone knows, please comment.
UPDATE: 6/11/18 A few weeks ago, my wife showed the video to an exterminator that sprays her building at work. He said to treat the furniture with a bug spray called "Onslaught Fast Cap" and he gave us a small sample. I sprayed all over the furniture and let it sit for about a week. Then I wiped everything down with a damp rag and now the mites are all gone. Now, it's only been a few weeks since I sprayed, but this is the longest we've gone without seeing them. Hopefully it worked permanently!
UPDATE: 10/22/18 We covered our back patio furniture for the winter and still didn’t see any bugs. So far, it looks like the “Onslaught Fast Cap” spray worked. I’ll update everyone when we uncover our furniture in the spring.
UPDATE 4/15/19: We uncovered our patio furniture and the bugs were back in full force. Luckily, we had some remaining Onslaught left over from last year. We treated our furniture again and I'll check back in a few weeks to see if this worked.
UPDATE 6/7/19: I cleaned all the bug spray off the furniture 2 weeks ago and the bugs seem to be gone. I may replace the covers for the furniture in the fall with brand new ones and see if the bugs return next spring. That way I can rule out if the bugs are also living in the furniture covers.
UPDATE 7/6/20: As of now, we haven't seen the bugs return this season. I also cut down and removed a nearby 15ft blue spruce that we believe may have been housing the bugs. I'll report back if they returned by the end of the season.
UPDATE 8/7/23: This is my first update in many years. I see this video has reached many people and they were able to eradicate their bug issue based on my experience. That’s great to hear! We have not seen these bugs on our outside patio furniture since 2019, so I believe we have also solved our bug problem. This will be my final update (unless they return). Good luck everyone!
