To install the 8.7 update for your Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, follow these steps:
1. Download the Update
Visit the Blackmagic Design Support Page: Go to the Blackmagic Design support page.
Select Your Camera Model: Under "Latest Downloads," choose the "Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K" section.
Download the Firmware: Find the 8.7 update, click "Download Only," and choose the appropriate operating system (Windows or macOS). Fill in the required details and start the download.
2. Prepare for Installation
Ensure Full Battery or Connect to Power: Make sure your BMPCC4K is fully charged or connected to an external power source to prevent interruptions during the update.
Backup Your Data: Although the update process generally doesn't affect your media, it's good practice to back up any important files before proceeding.
3. Install the Software on Your Computer
Locate the Downloaded File: Once the download is complete, locate the installer file in your downloads folder.
Run the Installer: Double-click the installer file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the Blackmagic Camera Setup software.
4. Connect Your Camera
Use a USB-C Cable: Connect your BMPCC4K to your computer using a USB-C cable.
Turn on Your Camera: Power on your camera, ensuring it’s in camera mode, not playback mode.
5. Run the Update
Launch Blackmagic Camera Setup: After installation, open the Blackmagic Camera Setup software on your computer.
Detect the Camera: The software should automatically detect your connected BMPCC4K and display the current firmware version.
Start the Update: Click on the "Update Now" button. The software will begin installing the 8.7 firmware on your camera.
Wait for Completion: The update process may take a few minutes. Do not disconnect or turn off the camera during this process.
6. Restart the Camera
Power Cycle the Camera: Once the update is complete, the software will prompt you to restart the camera. Disconnect the USB-C cable and turn off the camera.
Turn On the Camera Again: Power on the camera to complete the installation.
7. Verify the Update
Check the Firmware Version: Navigate to the camera's menu and confirm that the firmware version is now 8.7.
8. Test Your Camera
Perform a Quick Function Test: Test basic functions like recording, playback, and menu navigation to ensure everything is working smoothly with the new firmware.
You're all set! The 8.7 update should now be successfully installed on your Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera.
