We are all programmed to crave high calorie foods with added fat, salt and sugar. Believe it or not, it's not just you!
But it is possible to not only overcome these cravings, but to crave healthier foods instead.
I reference Dr Michael Greger's video from www.nutritionfacts.org about Changing Your Taste Buds in this video. Turns out, studies show that when people begin to eat foods lower in salt that they begin to enjoy the foods more and find their typical high salt foods unappealing.
The take away from his video and this experiment is that it IS possible to change the foods you crave. Don't give in to the idea that you cannot change, and you're just a person that has to have cheese, or bacon, or ice cream. Change is not only possible, but not as difficult as you may think.
I changed from a salt-a-holic to someone that doesn't add any salt or any salt substitute to my foods. I take in around 300-400mg of sodium a day now, compared to around 5,000 to 6,000 mg when I coated everything in salt.
As Dr. Greger states in the video, "The longer we eat healthier foods, the better they taste." If there's only one thing you remember from this video, please remember that.
You might have trouble imagining life without cheese, ice cream or bacon, but given enough time, you'll find yourself not missing these items at all.
Because remember, the longer we eat healthier foods, the better they taste. I know, right, I already said that! But it's so important!
What if you're only 3 weeks away from cutting out added salt from your diet permanently? What if in 3 weeks you could cut out added sugar in the form of corn syrup or even agave, with no more cravings? What if added fat like oils could be eliminated with only a few weeks of relatively mild suffering?
I relate my experience here and the study detailed in the video in order to help you tackle the idea of changing your taste buds.
Imagine how you'll feel if you don't crave foods that make you feel bad and suddenly crave foods that make your body feel clean and light?
