A common question Randy often gets is "where should i put my camp on a backcountry hunt?" People often wonder how close they should be to the elk, should they be up hill or downhill, and a variety of other concerns.
In this video, Randy goes over just that. While on a backcountry Colorado elk hunt at 12,000 feet he has to pick a camp that was not only far enough away from where he though the elk would be but also one that'd provide enough feed for the llamas.
As a general rule, Randy suggests being downhill from where the elk are going to be. This allows you to hike up in the morning and down in the evening with the wind in your favor. On this hunt, Randy is about 1 mile away from where he thinks the elk are.
