কাহলিল জিব্রান একজন লেবানিজ-আমেরিকান লেখক। বলা হয়ে থাকে ইতিহাসে যাদের কবিতার বই সবচেয়ে বেশি বিক্রি হয়েছে জিব্রান তার মধ্যে তৃতীয়। তার আগে আছেন শেক্সপিয়ার ও লাওজি। তিনি একাধারে কবি ও অসাধারণ চিত্রশিল্পী। তার ‘দ্য প্রফেট’ সাহিত্য ইতিহাসের সাড়া জাগনো একটি বই। এই বই এ পর্যন্ত মোট চল্লিশটি ভাষায় অনূদিত হয়েছে। ১৯২৩ সালে এটি প্রথম প্রকাশিত হয়। জিব্রানের এ বই এখনো এক বিস্ময়ের নাম। সবার কাছেই এক চমক। এত বছর পরেও এই বইয়ের আবেদন একটুও কমেনি।

The book is made up of 26 prose poems, delivered as sermons by a wise man called Al Mustapha. He is about to set sail for his homeland after 12 years in exile on a fictional island when the people of the island ask him to share his wisdom on the big questions of life: love, family, work and death.
