One of the more iconic train horns of the late 20th century, the K5LA has become a staple of passenger (and freight) train horns in North America.
In the mid-1970s, Amtrak and Nathan Airchime partnered to design a new train horn for Amtrak's new fleet. They eventually settled on the K5LA, a 5-note horn that plays a melodic, cheerful tune. It proved very popular and was marketed to railroads in general. Many commuter railroads, as well as freight railroads (mostly in the eastern US) bought them. Today, K5LA horns can be found all over North America. Lets listen to some of them!
