Student protesters in Bangladesh, angered by high youth unemployment where nearly 32 million people are out of work or education in a population of 170 million, are demanding an end to quotas for government jobs. Following clashes this week that resulted in six deaths and hundreds of injuries, they are now calling for a complete nationwide shutdown. The protesters specifically seek the abolition of a 30 percent reservation quota for the families of veterans of the 1971 independence war.
