Today I am demonstrating how I painted this landscape using soft pastels. I am using Black UArt Sanded paper and mostly Jack Richenson soft pastels. You can use whatever supplies you have. A darker pastel paper would be helpful but is not required to complete this painting.
This piece is a great beginner soft pastel lesson. If you are just getting started and are nervous about your drawing skills then this is a great picture to start with. With it being monochromatic this picture is also a great lesson on color value (how light or dark a color is) and can help you become more aware of the undertones within a color. Do your best to grab a mix of blues (dark, light, vibrant, more grey based, blues that lean a little more purple and ones that start leaning more green). If your feeling wild you don’t have to use blues you can pick a different color family to use like purples, greens, or even red if your feeling adventurous.
