One of my favorite rhythms from West Africa - Dununba
There are many ways to play this rhythm, and it has many variations and parts. I decided to be inspired by the traditional way, but to move the doun drums parts a bit, in order to create a more communicative feel and sound.
Holding a steady rhythm with my feet using the Sangban (right foot) and the Shake Hat (left foot), I created a basic layer for me to flow and improvise on top, exploring Ideas and sounds.
There are always THREE layers happening at the same time
This is the magic of African drumming, harmonic rhythm, simultaneously.
Taken a few years ago in the streets of Netanya, Israel.
