Were dinosaurs warm-blooded or cold-blooded? What do those terms even mean? The beginning of our exploration of dinosaur thermophysiology. First we examine what endothermy, ectothermy, tachymetabolism, bradymetabolism, homeothermy, and poikilothermy mean, and what advantages and cost warm-bloodedness provide. Then we look at the early research on the possibility that Mesozoic dinosaurs had physiologies more like modern birds and mammals than like lizards, snakes, turtles, or crocs.
