Traditional:
1. Traditional Martial art emphasizes on self -development
2. They have a history of around 2000 years
3. The objective is self-defense and survival
4. The purpose is to develop well balanced super human by training mind and body
5. Weight and height of the opponent does not matter at all
6. Training atmosphere is minimalist
7. The techniques are practiced again and again which displays crisp in movement, power a practitioner
can deliver and the control they have on their body.
8. Most of the techniques are hidden inside the move
Sport:
1. Sport martial art emphasizes on exercise and competition
2. They are descendent of traditional styles
3. The techniques are modified as per the requirements of competition
4. It’s about competition and points
5. The winner is always the one who is fastest and precious with his foot and feet power is of
least importance
6. Height and weight of the opponents is usually same
7. The objective is to cultivate fighting spirit and winning the battle attitude
8. Training atmosphere is very modern with advanced equipment’s
9. The techniques are very fluid and spectacular
10. The techniques are straight forward you get what you see
11. It’s all about winning at any cost
Conclusion:
All the things I mentioned are the differences, the distinction is more complex than what I have
mentioned however my idea was to give you basic knowledge so you can choose which style you
want to be in.

An art is art and a sport are a sport. When you are learning and art you need bring lot more thing to the
table apart from your physical abilities. It’s said that movements in any traditional style is like self-defense encyclopedia and you need to have patience and insight to unravel its treasure.
Finally, it’s not about style it’s about us, as a martial artist we need to continually seek methods to
improve ourselves, we need to find weakness in our own training and find methods to
overcome them. We always need to keep our mind open and seek answers.
