Europol seized 25 tonnes of endangered eels destined for smuggling in Asia.
The vast majority of the bulk was seized in Spain, where three separate gangs were arrested.
Experts believe gangs who are smuggling these eels are pushing them towards extinction.
The bust was part of anti-smuggling operation “ASKEZ IV-LAKE”.
