Video transcript:
In this video you will learn how to relieve choking on an adult and on a child. Use abdominal thrust to relieve chocking in a responsive victim one year of age or older.
Do not use abdominal thrust to relieve choking in infants. If you see someone clutching their throat with their thumb and fingers this is the universal sign for choking. You should ask them are you choking? If they cannot respond or simply nod yes, stand or kneel behind the victim and wrap your arms around the victims waist. Make a fist with one hand, place the thumb side of your fist against the victims abdomen in the mid-line slightly above the navel and well below the breast bone. Grasp your fist with your other hand and press your fist into the victims abdomen with a quick forceful upward thrust.
Repeat thrusts until the object is expelled from the air way or the victim becomes unresponsive. Give each new thrust with a separate, distinct movement to relieve the obstruction.
