Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers are among the most elite operators in the US Armed Forces. Known as ASTs, they undergo a 10 month training regime that weeds out three of every four candidates. Once in the fleet, “swimmers” can count on being dropped into rescues on top of mountains, in hurricanes, flooded cities and far out to sea.
