RAIN is an acronym for mindfulness practice. It is characterized by an emphasis on maintaining awareness of your surroundings and the thoughts and feelings that come with them without judgement.
The 'R' stands for Recognition of the stimulus, surroundings, the thought, and emotion generated. 'A' stands for Acceptance of the experience just as it is. 'I' is Investigate with gentle
and curious attention. 'N' stands for Non-identification by just letting the experience pass & not
reacting to it.
This can be applied effectively to deal with the craving for cigarettes. Recognize as the craving
arises in your body. Accept & feel the urge but do not hook yourself to it. Investigate how the craving is felt in mind and body in gentle and curious way without judging it. You can also name the feeling in a single word like tightness, pressure, anxiety, burning, etc.
Finally, non-identify by noticing how it simply passes away as you do not indulge in it.
