There is a rare type of natural disaster which occurs when a rare vatiety of large lake emits all of the carbon dioxide gas it contains, releasing a deadly cloud of gas which can be more than 50 meters or 164 feet in height. Known as a "limnic eruption", this was thought to have only been witnessed in historical times at two lakes in Cameroon. Yet, it has come to my attention that another lake, specifically above a volcano in Ecuador has also historically produced limnic eruptions. This video will discuss which lake and volcano this has historically occurred at, and how limnic eruptions occur in the first place.
Note: Please watch the entire video so that key elements of this video are not taken out of context and/or misrepresented. Also, limnic eruptions do not literally involve a lake exploding, this is simply a media created term for a limnic eruption which has been used in many articles.

This image portrays one possible cause of a limnic eruption; that is an underwater phreatic or phreatomagmatic volcanic eruption which starts at the bottom of the lake and then potentially reaches the surface of said lake. This image was then overlaid with text and GeologyHub made graphics.
