The name raglan refers to the style of the tee rather than the material its made from.
Raglan tees have sleeves that extend, in one piece, to the collar. This leads to a diagonal seam from the collar to the underarm.
The Raglan, named after Lord Raglan, was invented for him by a coat producer to increase his range of motion while using his sword in battle. Jumping forward about 100 years, this style was later adopted by baseball players in the MLB, obviously seeing its perks. Even if they were yielding a bat instead of a sword.
After its return to popularity, the raglan was transformed and popularized into the iconic three quarter length white body, colored sleeves tee that we think of today.
