Some of the world’s leading fertility experts took part in the third annual Fertility Show Africa (FSA), Africa's essential fertility event for those trying to conceive or on a journey to parenthood.

FSA made a welcome return as an in-person event in 2022 and was also carried online to support visitors from around the country, the continent and the rest of the world suffering from infertility and looking for answers, solutions, and guidance.

About Boitumelo Dibakoane

Formerly known as Boitumelo, now known as Mama. On June 28, 2019, Mama’s world went black and blank. She remembers a new born baby lying next to her, a wet oversized t-shirt, a half lit room, closed curtains and going on a tea diet because she had no food. She was 21 years old and had kept her pregnancy a secret until the very last day. She had no consultations with a doctor, no prenatal vitamins, no baby shower, no nursing teas, no pre-baby shopping for clothes, no birthing plan and no ultrasound scans. It was after a few minutes of what felt like centuries of labour, that she gave birth to a beautiful boy, alone in a room with no assistance or support. She was rushed to a public hospital, where she was physically and emotionally abused by the nurses on duty. Her birthing nightmare made her realise the need for support and the decision to help other women in similar situations came easily. She knew she had to protect and advocate for women’s bodily autonomy, mental health and, most importantly, birthing rights. She spent months looking for ways she could help and was finally exposed to the wonderful work done by doulas, and immediately started the course. “As doulas we help to relax your worries and fears, giving you a relaxed birthing experience.”
