How to Restore a graphite fishing rod and replace the rod eyes.

This is a short tutorial on how to completely strip the varnish ans paint down on a graphite fishing rod to the bare blank. Then remove the old rod eyes and rebuilding it.



For the rebuilding of the fishing rod:

The rod was spray painted with primer then lightly sanded back with p1500 grit sandpaper.

The rod was wiped clean with isopropyl alcohol and prepped for painted by making of the handle.

And then painted stealth grey (nardo).

The rod eyes were positioned in line with the reel seat and taped with masking tape, once straight it was glued with superglue.

Then the eyes were wound with the eye thread using a fishing line spooler suctioned to a base.

The rod handle and eyes were then masked and the rod was given a final clear coat.

Finally I mixed up some general purpose epoxy resin for the eye thread.

I added some purple green glitter flakes into the resin mix.

And painted onto the thread with a tiny paint brush.

It came out better than I could've hoped and can't wait to take it on to my next fishing trip!
