Read along to practice your English and to learn the English greetings WHAT'S UP? WHAT'S GOING ON? and WHAT'S HAPPENING?
So today I wanted to talk about the English greeting, "What's up?" I wanted to help you learn the English greeting, "What's up?" I know some of you know this question already. You know that English speakers, when they greet each other, often say, "What's up?" By the way, we never say, "What is up?" We always use the contraction, we always shorten the sentence and we say, "What's up?" If we say it really fast, sometimes we say, "Wassup?" Or, "Wazzup?" But mostly we just say, "What's up?" And the most common answer is, "Not much." Even if we do have a lot going on, even if we are doing a lot in our life, we will often just respond with, "Not much," especially if we are talking to someone we don't know that well. If my mom said, "What's up?" I would probably answer in great detail. I would probably tell her everything that I'm doing that day but if someone at work said, "What's up?" I would probably answer by saying, "Not much," or, "Not a whole lot." Those are the two most common answers for the greeting, "What's up?"

And there's two other questions, "What's going on?" And, "What's happening?" And these mean exactly the same thing as, "What's up?" If you walk into work and someone says, "Hey, what's going on?" You can just answer by saying, "Oh, not too much." And if someone says, "Hey, what's happening?" You could answer by saying, "Not much," or, "Not very much," or, "Not a whole lot." So when you say to someone in English, "What's up?" You are not looking for their life story. When you say to someone in English or when you greet them by saying, "Hey, what's going on?" Or, "What's happening?" You are not expecting them to tell you their life story. Basically, you're expecting them to say, "Not much," or, "Not a whole lot." Anyways, Bob the Canadian here, and you're learning English with me. Hope you're having a good day and I'll see you tomorrow with another English lesson.
