If you’ve ever tried to build in a historic district or wondered why a historic building could be demolished, you probably realized that you need to understand the government’s role in historic preservation. This course takes an in-depth look at the role of federal, state, and local governments in historic preservation. The course aims to expand the understanding of the legal basis for historic preservation by examining regulations at all levels of government, funding and tax relief programs for preservation projects, and various strategies to strengthen regulations.
