David’s Prayer for Deliverance
Pursued by his own brother, King David prayed for God to deliver him from his enemies. It seems most of us have or have had enemies who, for whatever reason (and perhaps with the help and influence of evil forces), seek to harm us in one way or another. When faced with such opposition, just as the psalmist did, we should not hesitate to cry out for divine protection from our Lord.
Prayer:
Lord, how many are my foes!
How many rise up against me!
Many say of me,
‘God will not deliver him.’
But You, Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One Who lifts my head high.
I call out to You, Lord,
and You answer me from Your Holy mountain.
I lie down and sleep;
and I wake again, because You sustain me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
assail me on every side.
Arise, Lord!
Deliver me, my God!
Strike all my enemies;
break the wicked.
From You, Lord, comes my deliverance.
May Your blessing be on all Your people.
(Adapted from Psalm 3)
