(7 Feb 2014) Fans from all over the world continued to gather at the Olympic Park in Sochi on Friday, for the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
The opening ceremony is themed "Dreams about Russia," and will focus on the nation's history and the Olympic ideals of sportsmanship.
The ceremony is expected to feature a pseudo-lesbian pop duo as well as reflections of Russian history.
In a provocative choice, Russian singers Tatu will perform before the three-thousand athletes march through Fisht Stadium on the shores of the Black Sea.
The women in Tatu put on a fake lesbian act that is seen as an attention-getting gimmick.
It contrasts with the very real anger over a Russian law banning gay "propaganda" aimed at minors that is being used to discriminate against gays.
Some world leaders and activists have protested the law, and US President Barack Obama is skipping the opening ceremony and sending a delegation that includes prominent gay athletes instead.
