Alright guys, we get a lot of calls from customers who need to scan mechanical objects like this Vortex Magnifier - specifically for reverse engineering. Today, we're showing how to choose the right scanner for this task and turn it into a CAD model for modification or creating accessories.

We have a few options here. The EinScan SP and Pro HD are great for small objects, offering excellent detail and resolution. However, they use structured light, which struggles with dark, reflective, or transparent surfaces. So, for this kind of object, these aren't ideal.

Next, we have the H2 scanner, which is fantastic for body and full-color scanning but not the best for mechanical objects like this one. Again, it's structured light and infrared, so reflective and transparent surfaces remain a challenge.

Now, let's talk about the HX scanner, which uses blue lasers. These lasers don't mind dark or reflective surfaces and offer superb detail without the need for scanning spray. But there's a catch with laser scanners—they require markers, which means a bit more setup.

For this project, we recommend the FreeScan Combo. It combines laser and infrared scanning, handling various surfaces with ease and offering metrology-grade accuracy. Perfect for both large and small objects, it's versatile and highly accurate.

We also demonstrate using a marker turntable, which simplifies the scanning process by eliminating the need to place markers on the object itself. For high-resolution details, scanning spray can be a game-changer, making even difficult surfaces easy to scan.

Despite some technical difficulties with our screen recording, we achieved excellent scan results. Using the FreeScan Combo, we captured detailed data, aligned multiple scans, and prepared it for reverse engineering in Geomagic Essentials software.
