Permaculture Principle #4: Apply Self-Regulation & Accept Feedback
The Earth is a living being, with living systems such as forests, rivers and oceans in place which help maintain a balanced climate, biosphere and conditions required for life. This principle encourages us to seek balance and set limits to growth in everything we do, so that we don't upset that balance and trigger a planetary-scale immune response (such as those we are currently experiencing in the form of extreme weather and ecological collapse). Ideally, a permaculture system mimics the Earth as a whole, with self-regulating systems that support each other and in order to achieve that, we need to carefully observe and take any feedback seriously. Right now, we are getting some pretty strong feedback from Earth's living systems that we would be wise to listen to.
