Geospatial Data Science often misunderstood. Geospatial Technology like GIS is used in everyday life using geospatial data or location data to power things like digital maps or even weather applications. Geospatial Scientist Dr. Narcisa Pricope provides a simple explanation of the location and mapping technology. GIS leverages raster and vector data in layers and enables cross layer analysis all tied to the location of the data. For example you can compare weather patterns with topography to help determine why areas are more affected by different types of weather. You can analyze anything with location information including census data, weather data, satellite imagery, drone video footage, etc. and tie the multiple data sources together through geospatial data science analysis.

Dr. Pricope is a Professor of Geography and Geospatial Science at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She studies human environment interactions via remote sensing from drones, satellite imagery and geospatial data by leveraging GIS technology.
