Originally from Miami, Dr. Robert J. Rothrock is in his final year of neurosurgery residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and plans on pursuing a neurosurgical career in the spine field, specifically spinal oncology and adult deformity, and he also has interests in endoscopic and cranial surgery. For Dr. Rothrock, one of the most important parts of his neurosurgical training at Mount Sinai was having trust from his attending neurosurgeons in the operating room.
“I think the formative years of residency are the senior years where you get increasing autonomy, and I think that the most valuable thing I learned … is the feeling of being alone in the room at times and being in a decision-making capacity, really on the hook for outcomes for patients,” he says. “I think that’s the most valuable thing you can look for in a residency program.”
