What is FOREST BATHING?

The city air is hot and sticky and the FOREST is calling me.

I step off the pavement through an opening to the FOREST trail and I'm instantly transported. Escaping the concrete jungle has wondrous effects on the soul.

Deep, strong roots lay beneath the forest path. The scent of the damp earth rises to greet me. I inhale the clean air deeply to fill my and release the tension in my body.

I see fragments of sunlight dispersed and dappled through the trees, beaming down heaven's spotlight from the sky above and I think, "I see you GOD."

The sound of leaves gently rustling and swaying in the breeze. The bewildering calm that washes over my body as I walk beneath the FOREST canopy. My eyes feast on the lush plants sprawling along the canopy floor. I can feel the tension in my body slowly releasing and a calm washes over me.

I now recognize that I've been practising what is knows as FOREST BATHING. As refreshing and renewing as it sounds; it's being completely and entirely immersed.

Touching the bark of tree trunks, like a gentle caress, thanking them, letting them know I see them and I appreciate them. Being in awe of their majestic stature and strength.

I'm overcome with gratitude that somehow I've been blessed to live in a neighbourhood where nature is never more that a few steps away. I need only answer the call to return and I will be welcomed with open arms, embraced by a sense of pure peace. Imbued with a sense of well-being. Like I need noting more in life than this moment.

I linger. I close my eyes. I feel the warmth of the sun on my face, a feeling of joy swells in my chest, my eyes sting, as though I could weep over feeling so elated. This is where I'm mean to be.

The natural world awaits you. Let the FOREST in.
