Nairobi governor elect Mike Sonko has dismissed claims that the ongoing cleaning and garbage collection within the CBD is a PR gimmick.
Sonko on Saturday lead two groups of his Sonko Rescue Team in a cleaning exercise along Moi Avenue.
He told journalist that the move is aimed at ensuring that his governance is service delivery oriented.
I visited Kigali yesterday with his Excellency the President and I saw how Kigali city is up to standard. Our aim as a county government is restore Nairobi’s glory to the cleanest town if not in Africa, within Eastern and Central Aftrica,” he said.
After the photos were posted on social media a section of his followers hit back saying the governor elect was in a Pr stance.
While some said it was too early for him to play PR with his rescue team, others advised him to go slow as sustaining such a programme for five years can be overwhelming.
But Sonko said, “This is not a PR or a media show, we are here to ensure that Nairobi looks better because this is what is in our hearts and we are dedicated to achieve it”.
Sonko said the exercise will go on through the night to ensure that most of the garbage dumped within the CBD has been collected.
