South Llano River State Park was not much to see as we neared the entrance. I will admit I was concerned about spending several days there but once we pulled into our site I was amazed. The sandy ground, small shelter and desert trees charmed me as we tucked our trailer into its home for a few days. The trails were as varied as my expectations from switchbacks up to a high overlook, to a forest path along a river to a complete hike through the desert across dry riverbeds this park showed some versatility. We fell in love with the armadillos that thrived in the area and wandered into our site. Welcoming the first full wolf moon of 2023 representing deep self reflection, I learned things aren't always as they appear and if you delve deeper you almost always will find a delightful surprise.
