Pregnancy is not an unfamiliar event for any of us…..but what about some many European women coming to a village in India to get pregnant. Sounds strange, right?
But it is true. European women flock to villages in India's Ladakh region to become pregnant...! These women exclusively reach this region to get pregnant in the villages of Biama, Dha, Hanu and Darchik in Ladakh. Young females receive sperm from Brokhapa males. Foreign women who come here choose the man of their choice. They stay with them until they become pregnant. After conception, they return to their own country.
The Brokhapas are believed to be of unmixed 'Aryan' origin. The aim of the women who come here is to get children of the Aryan race. It is said that the Aryans here are not mixed with the blood of any other races. We have studied Alexander the Great's invasion of India in history. When Alexander returned after the war, many warriors settled in the Indus Valley. It is said that they settled there because they were attracted by the landscape and all. It is believed that the descendants of the warriors who settled there are now in this village. Brokhapa men are different from other men of Ladakh. Brokhapa men have light colored eyes, high cheekbones, long hair and pale skin. Men here do not marry people of other races.
Brokhapa people don't like to talk much about pregnancy tourism. The reason is the fear of losing the respect they have in the society. The rituals of Brokhapa are related to Vedic culture. Like the Aryans, they are nature worshippers. They have not only male gods but also mother gods. Moreover, the language of Brokhapa is similar to Sanskrit. They celebrate a festival called Bonona every year in October. Agriculture is their main means of livelihood. There are also those who work in the army.
