Come with us 'Behind the Seams' on an exploration of the extensive conservation work by Janie Lightfoot Textiles on the Sambourne House collection of dresses for major exhibition 'Out Shopping: The Dresses of Marion and Maud Sambourne (1880-1910)'.

'Out Shopping' showcases a collection of nationally significant outfits belonging to Marion and Maud Sambourne, including rare surviving examples by leading - often female - dressmakers of the era. Focused on the late Victorian period and into the 20th century at a moment in history that shaped the way fashion and shopping is consumed today, accompanying photography, letters and receipts paint an intimate picture of how fashion informed the distinct personalities of this middle-class mother and her affluent daughter.

For the first time in the history of the museums, the exhibition spans across both Leighton House and Sambourne House, inviting visitors to embark on a immersive journey.
