(16 Sep 2021) ACTOR JADA PINKETT SMITH REACHES HER MILESTONE 50TH BIRTHDAY ON SATURDAY
Actor Jada Pinkett Smith turns 50, Saturday (18 SEPTEMBER 2021), just days after being named among the world's most influential people by TIME.
On Wednesday (16 SEPTEMBER 2021), the star appeared on the TIME100 list in conjunction with her "Red Table Talk" co-hosts - daughter Willow Smith and mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris.
Born in Baltimore on 18 September 1971, Jada Pinkett landed her first regular TV role in 1991-1993 show "A Different World," raising her acting profile further with early movies including 1996 Eddie Murphy hit "The Nutty Professor."
The star changed her name to Jada Pinkett Smith after marrying fellow actor Will Smith in 1997. They have two children together - Jaden and Willow.
Her acting career continued with projects including "Bamboozled," "Ali," and the "Madagascar" films and "The Matrix" sequels.
Pinkett Smith's work behind the scenes includes as co-producer of "The Karate Kid" reboot, starring Jaden Smith, and "After Earth," starring Jaden and Will Smith. She was also a producer on Will Gluck's 2014 remake of "Annie," as well as co-creator, with Will Smith and Betsy Borns, of mid 2000s TV show "All of Us."
Away from TV and film, Pinkett Smith formed nu metal band Wicked Wisdom in the 2000s. The "Bleed All Over Me" stars released their self-titled debut album in the U.S. at the end of February 2006 and charted at number 7 in the US Metal Charts.
"I really love this particular genre of music because it gives artists a place to unleash and talk about things that may not be so PC, or what have you," Pinkett Smith told The Associated Press in 2006.
"I think today, in this day and age where everybody spends so much time suppressing those emotions that are supposedly not so polite but yet are very healthy and it can be very toxic if you don't have a place to lash out."
The star launched family project "Red Table Talk" in 2018. Hosted in the family home, the Facebook series focuses on candid conversations with family and friends.
In 2020 that included talking openly on air with husband Will, reaffirming their commitment to one another and discussing their marriage, as Pinkett Smith admitted to having a relationship with musician August Alsina when she and Smith were separated.
