[thumbnail pic: October 8, 1968 "Awake!" article] Despite the in-print evidence that Watchtower leaders and writers were responsible for the excitement about the date 1975 and the imminence of Armageddon, the Governing Body admitted no responsibility for that major disappointment till 4 years after at least a million Jehovah's Witnesses had left "God's organization" or become inactive in its public preaching. The chronological speculations which led to this prophetic error were not repented of. Watchtower (JW.org) leaders go right on clinging to 1914, though they have been forced to "adjust" their teaching regarding "this generation", and have apparently completely forgotten their attaching Christ's millennial reign to the expiration of 6000 years of human history.
