A reworking of a talk given several times- at Machines that Matter [eFlux 2015] and for the DUST seminars [Texas 2017]. This talk highlights the importance of Peter Watts' [hard scifi writer, biologist] work for my thinking about the questions of a cosmopolitics. Some of these investigations go back to 2005 or so, when I was teaching architecture/media at SCIArc, and founded the MediaSCAPES program there. One of my key foci in those years was post-Empire, and many seminars and design studios engaged this set of problems, which led directly to an engagement with the Post Planetary, and cosmopolitics.
