Please enjoy this whistle stop tour of Spitalfields' ancient streets, during 2021's lockdown. Filmed with a DJI Mini 2 and Samsung S20 Ultra. The history of this area makes it one of East London's most interesting areas, with a fascinating past including:
00:00 - Intro
02:33 - the burial ground of the first Roman known to have been buried in Britain, possibly the consort of one of Roman Britain’s last viceroys prior to the collapse of their Empire;
04:56 - a medieval priory and hospital which became the final resting place for over 10,000;
06:54 - a place of refuge for French Huguenots forced from France by edict of the Sun King;
09:17 - the Victorian haunt of brutal and infamous killer Jack the Ripper;
14:37 - a shelter for thousands of East Enders during the Blitz; and
17:01 - today’s meeting point between the City of London, and Shoreditch.
All footage and narration is my own.
