PSA: these items increase to scale to your character level...
all the Relic swords and armors (Hen Gaidth, Toussaint, Squire's, Gesheft, Vitis) scale to your character level at the time you loot the item. so the higher you are when you loot it, the better the defense or damage (and level). it seems to be Character Level -1 = Item Level (and the damage or defense increases; other stats stay the same)
you can see here, for example, Hen Gaidth Steel Sword is Lv51:

but I tested looting it at a higher level, here it's Lv52:

I also tested the Toussaint Ducal Guardsman's Steel Sword by doing that quest at Lv54, and now it's Lv53:

(highest steel sword damage in the game).
So it appears to confirm that all the Relic swords and armors (Hen Gaidth, Toussaint, Squire's, Gesheft, Vitis) scale to your character level at the time you loot the item.
So anyhow, this is probably the best defensive armor set in the game, and it's miss-able.... Also, the Vitis and Gesheft swords are the best magic-user swords in the game (but Griffin Swords are part of the best magic-user build IMO cuz the 6/6 set bonus), and they're different than the ones you can craft. I found this set during Beyond Hill and Dale in the Land of a Thousand Fables... I was exploring and twice I found Wisps, and followed them to the Toussaint set...
so if Hen Gaidth is the vampire armor for the Unseen Path and the Bad ending...
then Toussaint is the fairy tale armour for the Syanna Path and the Good ending.
Best part of the armor is that it's armor defense is almost as high as Hen Gaidth but it comes with a huge +Vitality bonus for each item. The resistances are similarly huge.
The steel sword is also a little weaker than Hen Gaidth and it doesn't have the huge +critical attack bonuses, but does have very ample sign intensity bonuses on both swords. Between the huge armor and health + sign intensity, it's basically a fairy tale mage-tank sort of armor set
