Did you ever wonder why the northernmost part of Africa occupied by Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria shared similarities in most ways with the Middle East or Western Asia?
The simple answer is, although in physical traits and outlook they look similar. It was the successful Arabs conquest of North Africa during the 7th and 8th Century that defined what they are today. The conquest led to the Arabization and Islamization that has defined the cultural landscape of North Africa ever since.
This in turn was spread to the Sahel into the Sudanese state mostly Mali, Niger, and Mauritania among others during the Trans-Saharan trade and the Almoravid movement.
