THE WALK: In 1813, Laura Secord greatest war heroine from Canada walked 32 kilometers (20 miles) to warn the British that the Americans were coming to surprise attack them during the War of 1812. This legendary walk, done through treacherous swamps, forests, and summer heat, was made more difficult, as she took her cow (a smokescreen to trick the Americans she was trading for goods). Although she used the guise of 'trading', the Americans, who were billeted in her household quickly learned she had become a 'traitor'!
Laura Secord is Canada's version of Paul Revere's "The British are coming!", only reversed. Today, her legacy lives on as a true hero for Canadians, especially women, as she continues to inspire them. Listen to the experts shares their knowledge, stories and opinions, as we 'walk' her famous trail, stopping at the exact various stops she made, as well as visit both of her famous homes, which still stand today.
