A Riving Knife is a very important safety feature on most table saws. It prevents wood from binding up on the blade, and potentially causing dangerous kick back.
If you own an older model saw, a Riving Knife most likely not available. Older saws had built in splitters connected to the blade guard, but if you don't have the original guard it is very difficult to find one. There are other options for aftermarket splitters, most of them are stationary and fixed on a zero clearance insert preventing you from making rabbet cuts or dados.
I own an older model Delta Unisaw, and this is the best substitute for a Riving Knife out there for this specific saw. It is an Adjustable Splitter that can lower below your throat insert when you need to make rabbets or dados. It has anti kickback pawls on it for added safety. This bolts into your Unisaw using only 2 small bolts. The Delta Unisaw was unchanged for 50 years, so this Adjustable Splitter is compatible on most Unisaws.
In this video I unbox, inspect, install, and test out this very important Safety Feature you need if you own a table saw. It isn't new technology, but it certainly does give some piece of mind while in the workshop. It's also very cool! Thanks for checking this video out!
