This is how to bypass the VATS security system in older GM cars. This will solve the problem of bad connections. It will also allow you to have a regular key made for it for $2 rather than $50. In my case it was a little too late because my key is lost so I have to get another one from the dealer anyway. If you want to do this you can find the resistance by getting the resistor code from the dealer and cross referencing it with the chart below. You will need proof of ownership and ID before they will give it to you.
VATS # (K)OHMS (Set your meter to the 20k ohm setting)
= 0.402 k ohms
= 0.523 k ohms
= 0.681 k ohms
= 0.887 k ohms
= 1.130 k ohms
= 1.470 k ohms
= 1.870 k ohms
= 2.370 k ohms
= 3.010 k ohms
= 3.740 k ohms
= 4.750 k ohms
= 6.040 k ohms
= 7.500 k ohms
= 9.530 k ohms
= 11.801 k ohms
to make a copy using a cheap key you need an Ilco B62 blank then you will need to file off some of the head to make the blade longer. Hope this helps.
