1/2 The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on data collection for social surveys: Challenges and opportunities
When the pandemic and subsequent lockdown arrived early this year, survey organisations that relied heavily on face to face interviewing had to move quickly to adapt. For some surveys, plans were already in place for a move to other modes and circumstances gave an added impetus to make these changes. Other surveys had to make changes from scratch. This is the first of two seminars looking at how organisations made these adaptations. In this one, there are two presentations from NatCen, one looking at how quantitative surveys were adapted and one on the challenges of qualitative research. A third presentation, by Ipsos MORI, explains how the British Election Study was moved from face-to- face to push-to-web.
