Buddhist master Lama Ole Nydahl explains that on the Buddhist way, we try to refrain from ten kinds of actions that bring negative results, and instead cultivate their opposites:
1. Protect others instead of harming or killing them.
2. Give people what they need -- be generous.
3. Use the body to give love, also sexual love.
4. Tell people how things are so they can understand and be secure.
5. Use one's speech to bring people together.
6. Lift people up with meaningful speech.
7. Inspire people by speaking in a pleasant way.
8. Wish others happiness.
9. Learn to think clearly and understand cause and effect.
10. Become more aware through meditation.
