The historical centre of Lyon, France dates from Roman times.
In the 4th century, merchants created 'traboules" or hidden passageways to transport their products.
During World War II, the French Resistance used them to prevent the occupying Germans from taking complete control of the area. The traboules are hidden and easily connect one street to another.
