On February 11, 1960, Jack Paar walked off The Tonight Show after NBC censors edited out a segment he had taped the night before. He left his co-host, Hugh Downs, to continue the show without him. Paar was upset about the network's censorship of a joke he had told. His departure was unexpected and emotional, and it left a lasting impact on television history Paar would hide in Hong kong then came back to the usa in March of 1960 and returned back to the Tonight Show on March 7th, 1960
