I am so glad I was able to attend this year's Best Mortar Competition at Ft. Moore. The Rangers are truly the razor's edge and lived up to their reputation. Their championship wasn't given away though, they had to pry it loose from the grips of best Mortarmen the world has to offer and they showed up too.
But wait! Competitive field aside, the 3/75 had to also master the array of lofty tasks the Cadre of the 198th Mortar Company had laid out before the teams. They put on a great competition, which in and of itself is a mountainous task.
On the final day, the 120s came out and the crowd to see them. I was thrilled to see the media attention, I know they have a great story. It was at Red Cloud Range, which I myself actually have a lot of time & grade on back when. So, it was really nostalgic to sit there and spectate 30 some years later. It was really good and I am truly grateful for those who I got to speak to face to face, sometimes in heartfelt conversations. I'm moved and am glad to know you.
BUT WAIT! Who doesn't love the Mad Minute?! Holy crap Mortars can put a hurting on! What a show!
Congrats to those who "Lead the Way" and the rest who all made it look so easy. Cheers Fellas, thanks for letting me walk among you. C3M FDC
